Cultural Psychologist
Artist, Writer, and Podcast Host

Exploring culture, creativity, and consciousness through psychology and art.

I am a Cultural Psychologist, educator, artist, and scholar committed to exploring how identity, creativity, and creative fortitude shape our lives and communities.
As a multi-faceted creative, I am also a writer, artist, singer/songwriter, and host of the podcast Transforming Minds with Dr. Brian.
I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Rhode Island (2000). My work has focused on depression and anxiety, trauma, and the impact of interlocking systems of oppression.
My academic publications and co-authored, peer-reviewed papers appear in leading psychology journals and have been read and cited more than 880 times.
I’ve taught and developed online and in-person courses in psychology and education for over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Across my social media platforms, I’ve built a community of several thousand followers.
An early recipient of a Health Disparities Scholar Award from the NIH’s National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (2002), my research and teaching have always centered on meaning in life, expanding representation, deepening empathy, and amplifying historically marginalized voices.

I’ll be traveling abroad in late fall 2025 and 2026, continuing to blend psychology, culture, and art in new ways.
Warmly,

Dr. Brian
